• The 2013 SRT Viper: Split Tongues and Split Opinions

Like a sneaky snake, Dodge had been leaving hints about the new Viper since January until finally unveiling the 2013 model at the April 2012 New York International Auto Show. If you weren’t lucky enough to attend, we’re sure you’ve seen images of the new model by now. Definitely worth the two-year wait!

For a price estimated at a hundred grand, you get the newest incarnation of a car that’s been sinking its fangs into the open road since 1992. Appearance-wise, it’s never been a better time to go serpentine, what with the 2013 Viper’s bright new colors that rival those of its namesake. On the inside, you won’t find half-digested mice, but rather a full-leather interior. Yes, that means leather on every surface. Looks like the viper has just slithered its way into the luxury car category.

It seems that The Chrysler Group is going the extra mile to show that the Viper is in a class all its own. Just this year, they decided to make it part of Dodge’s SRT label for high-performance autos. Reportedly, the designers of the 2013 Viper have snuck special details into the design to make the Viper more closely resemble the reptile of its inspiration. Snake-eyed headlights, anyone?

Changes in the Viper’s appearance have convinced some skeptics that the car finally deserves its place among other top cars of European makes such as Audi and Ferrari. It also can’t hurt that the new Viper hasn’t lost any of its top-notch performance specs. Nevertheless, there’s been a lot of hissing about the new Viper in the online community. Some think the Viper venom has lost its bite, whereas others think it never had any at all.

Now that you’ve all had some time to admire the newest incarnation of the serpentine automobile fantasy, let’s hear your thoughts. As always, you’re welcome to say ANYTHING on our First Amendment-approved site.
